Meet the Active Coast & Country team
Having gained an honours degree in Leisure Studies from Leeds Metropolitan University, which he completed after doing a HND in Leisure Studies at Yorkshire Coast College; Matt started work on a new Rural Motivation sports project with Scarborough Borough Council. He then became the manager of the Whitby Action Sport project before becoming the Sports Development Officer in 2001.
His main areas of work include; club, coach and volunteer development, delivering sports events, developing inclusive sport opportunities, assisting with the School Games programme, assisting clubs with funding applications, developing NGB sports development schemes to raise participation and providing a relevant coach education programme. Matt also organises the Sports Awards event for the Scarborough and District Sports Council.
Outside of work he is a school governor at Hawsker with Stainsacre Primary School, a keen golfer, cyclist and runner; who has completed 18 Great North Runs and also the Yorkshire Marathon, he also follows Manchester United and enjoys watching any sporting activity. He is also a tutor for UK Coaching, Sports Leaders UK, the Sporting Memories Network and a FA Licensed Football Coach.
Matt will directly line manage the Active Coast & Country team and project.
Community Sports Activator
After graduating from the University of Central Lancashire in 2013 with a 2:1 in BA (Hons) Sport Development, Natalie continued her studying and went on to achieve a Masters with Distinction in Sport, Policy and Community Development also at UCLan in 2016.
Natalie has completed volunteer work in numerous areas including primary schools in Scarborough and in Preston, various disability sport projects and a number of events including the Tour de Yorkshire, Race for Life and the Sport Relief Mile. Natalie travelled to Zambia in the second year of her degree to help deliver a sport-for-development project within schools to provide health education through sport and games.
Natalie is qualified as a Level 1 Basketball Coach, a Level 1 Handball Coach, a Level 2 Netball Coach and a Walking Netball host. She also holds the Leadership in Running and Fitness award and is hoping to complete her Netball umpiring course soon. Natalie currently plays for a team in the Scarborough Netball League and enjoys playing any sport and goes to the gym in her spare time.
Community Sports Activator
Tony started work for his family’s long established business and then managed it for twenty years. He followed this by becoming a full time Sports Coach and started working for Ultimate Soccer School; a football and multi sports company based in Whitby which delivered PE in the local primary schools.
During that time Tony was instrumental in developing a link with Middlesbrough FC to develop a junior football centre in Whitby.
Tony is a FA Licensed Football Coach with the following football qualifications; UEFA B (Level 3), Youth Modules 1 & 2 and Futsal Level 1. He has also gained qualifications in Tag Rugby, Basketball, High 5 Netball and junior Cricket. He also holds the Leadership in Running and Fitness award
In his free time he like to keep fit by running and enjoys country side walks with his dog.
After graduating from the Manchester Metropolitan University in 2015 with a 2:1 in BA (Hons) Sport Management, Rochelle then went onto start her Gym and Personal Training Qualifications, which she is still undergoing.
Rochelle has volunteered at a number of sporting events in both Scarborough and Manchester including, Race for Life, Disability Games, Sainsbury’s School Games and a variety of cycling events.
Rochelle is qualified as a Level 1 Handball Coach and a Level 1 Netball Coach. Rochelle currently plays for a team in the Scarborough Netball League and enjoys playing other sports when given the opportunity.
